Everything you need to know about the role

As a Medical Writer, you'll be responsible for creating high-quality, scientifically accurate medical content across a broad range of healthcare communications programmes. Working closely with clients and multidisciplinary teams, you'll translate complex scientific information into compelling, audience-focused communications while contributing to strategic discussions and ensuring projects are delivered to the highest editorial standards. Depending on your level of experience, you'll also have opportunities to mentor junior colleagues and take greater ownership of projects and client interactions.

  • Develop clear, accurate and engaging scientific content across a variety of healthcare communications materials, ensuring exceptional editorial quality and scientific integrity.
  • Interpret and translate complex clinical and scientific data into compelling communications tailored to a range of healthcare audiences.
  • Work closely with account teams, strategists and clients to understand project objectives and deliver content aligned with brand strategy and communication goals.
  • Participate in client meetings, helping to shape project briefs, provide scientific expertise and contribute to strategic discussions.
  • Manage multiple writing projects simultaneously, ensuring deadlines, budgets and quality expectations are consistently achieved.
  • Build strong collaborative relationships with internal teams, clients and external experts to ensure seamless project delivery.
  • Contribute to quality control processes through meticulous proofreading, referencing and editorial review.
  • Support the development of junior colleagues through collaboration, knowledge sharing and mentoring where appropriate.
  • Embrace AI-enabled tools and emerging technologies to enhance efficiency while maintaining the highest standards of scientific accuracy and editorial excellence.

Experience and qualities that make you a strong fit

  • Previous Medical Writer experience gained within a medical communications, healthcare communications or pharmaceutical agency environment.
  • Minimum of 1 year and up to 3 years' medical writing experience within an agency
  • A strong scientific background with a degree in life sciences or a related discipline; MSc or PhD qualifications would be advantageous.
  • The ability to interpret complex scientific data and communicate it clearly for a variety of healthcare audiences.
  • Excellent attention to detail with exceptional editorial, proofreading and quality control skills.
  • Strong organisational skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deliver high-quality work to tight deadlines.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, alongside the confidence to contribute to client discussions and collaborate with multidisciplinary teams.
  • Experience across a range of therapy areas would be beneficial, with exposure to oncology, diabetes or other specialist therapeutic areas welcomed.
  • A proactive, collaborative and solutions-focused approach with a genuine passion for science and healthcare communications.
  • An enthusiasm for embracing AI and emerging technologies to improve ways of working while maintaining scientific rigour.
