AOP Health selected Carrot Recruitment as their retained partner to source their new US leadership team to launch their first ever product.

Executive Leadership Team | AOP Health | Newark, US

Having successfully delivered on individual appointments at senior level within the US market for AOP Health, they selected Carrot Recruitment as their retained partner to source their new US leadership team to launch their first ever product. AOP Health are a privately owned, Austrian based pharmaceutical company dedicated to developing innovative solutions, particularly in the fields of rare diseases and critical care medicine. With over 600 employees and net sales exceeding €300M, the launch of their first US product is a pivotal moment for them, and we were privileged to become their partner on this landmark assignment.

Requirements of the Hire

With a few key appointments already in situ – US General Manager, Legal Counsel and an Executive Director of Data already on permanent headcount, AOP needed to move quickly to attract and secure talented individuals for the following permanent roles that would fully establish their US Leadership Team and support their critical launch:

  • Vice President, Sales
  • Executive Director, Market Access, Trade & Distribution
  • Executive Director, Marketing
  • Vice President, Medical Affairs
  • Director, Market Access, Pricing & Contracting
  • Director, Data & CRM
  • Head of Finance

Our Approach

We worked as the exclusive partner with AOP Health, ensuring complete focus and commitment from both sides. Liaising through twice weekly meetings with their US GM and their Global Head of Talent, enabled real time communication and quick decision making throughout each process.

Our team was led by Debbie Anderson (Founder), supported by Martin Anderson (Co-Founder) and Calvin Lee, Principal Consultant who is based in Long Island, US.

For each vacancy, we carried out detailed market mapping across East Coast US (namely Boston, New York, New Jersey and Philadelphia) to quickly identify suitable talent. We leveraged LinkedIn Talent Insights, LinkedIn Recruiter and SourceWhale to advertise to the relevant talent bases and to facilitate direct approaches and engagement.

Outcome

The project is still ongoing, but within 11 weeks including the Christmas/New Year holiday period, we have successfully completed six of the seven assignments with the only remaining vacancy now at final stage assessment.

During the project, an average of four profiles were presented per vacancy, with three of these moving to first interview stage and two candidates progressing to the final case study, offering the ability to compare and contrast the best talent.

 What set us apart

Our significant experience across industry, consultancy and recruitment enabled us to fully understand each brief and to engage meaningfully with top level talent across each of the functions.

Being a retained partner allowed us to focus everything on this assignment and to work with a clear focus and speed, facilitating an efficient process.

Our strong understanding of the company culture, their US strategic aims and excellent therapeutic knowledge meant we could home in on specific skills quickly and identify those with the specific experience required (namely experience around hospital administered / acute products which are reimbursed through the DRG bundle and the
importance of strong relationships with the leading GPOs).

Twice weekly meetings and ongoing regular updates with our clients and key stakeholders, ensured communication was frequent and decision making was swift.

A Partnership Approach

At Carrot, 65% of our assignments throughout 2024 were worked in genuine partnership, where we were the sole supplier entrusted with that particular hiring project. There are some really significant benefits to this method of working that should never be overlooked. Our clients who employ this method rarely convert back to using a multi-agency approach for specific remits. Our success rate is 100% when working in partnership.
