Every year, my calendar has one fixed point in it well before the rest of the schedule takes shape: Fierce Pharma Week. As someone who works in life sciences recruitment, I’ve been going for a number of years now, and it’s the one event I look forward to more than any other. This year it runs September 14 to 17 at the Pennsylvania Convention Center in Philadelphia, and if you work anywhere in pharma and haven’t been before, here’s why I think it deserves a spot on your calendar too.
There’s no better place to reconnect with former colleagues, clients, and candidates, all while meeting new people from across the industry. With more than 3,000 attendees expected and over 1,700 of them senior decision-makers, the sheer concentration of people worth knowing in one building is hard to match. Conversations that start over coffee at Fierce Pharma Week have a habit of turning into real business relationships months later.
The event is built around four communities: Pharma Marketing, Medical Affairs, Commercialization, and PR & Communications, spread across 14 specialized tracks. That means you’ll meet professionals working across the entire product lifecycle, from launch and HCP engagement through medical communications, market access, and corporate affairs. Few events bring that many parts of the commercial and medical value chain into one room at once.
I always leave with a better understanding of where companies are investing, what products are on the horizon, and the talent challenges leaders are facing. This year’s agenda adds three brand-new tracks: Sales Enablement, Data, Analytics and Commercial Intelligence, and Market Access, which tells you a lot about where organizations expect to be building out capability and headcount over the next twelve months. That intelligence directly informs how we advise clients on hiring plans for the year ahead.

With 400+ industry speakers on the agenda, hearing directly from executives and experts gives valuable insight into the trends shaping pharma over the next few years, from commercial strategy to medical affairs excellence. This year’s keynote line-up includes Tamsen Fadal, the New York Times bestselling author and women’s health advocate, speaking on the gaps in education and care around midlife health, a reminder that the best sessions here go well beyond the usual commercial playbook.
Walking the RxHibit exhibit hall and networking events is where you discover innovative companies, emerging technologies, and ideas that aren’t always on your radar from the main stage alone. Some of my most useful conversations about what’s actually changing in the market have happened while browsing the show floor rather than sitting in a session.
Whether it’s over coffee between sessions, at the Fierce Nights after-hours events, or catching up at the Fierce Pharma Marketing Awards Gala, some of the most valuable conversations happen in informal settings, away from the agenda and the booth. The organizers clearly get this too; networking is woven into the day itself rather than left to a single evening reception.
Officially it’s the “Take a Paws” activation, and it sits alongside a whole run of unexpected between-session moments, arcade games, a golf simulator, complimentary headshots, and more. It’s a small thing, but it’s exactly the kind of unexpected, feel-good moment that makes Fierce Pharma Week such a fun event to be part of, not just a productive one.
I’m looking forward to being there again this year. If you’re attending too, I’d love to connect for a coffee or a drink and hear what you’re seeing in the market, especially around hiring plans in areas like Market Access and Sales Enablement, and where your talent challenges lie. It’s often the fastest way to figure out whether there’s a way we can support each other.
At Carrot, we’re passionate about helping life sciences companies and consultancies build exceptional teams while making sure every candidate has the best possible experience along the way.
