Throughout a career in CAPEX engineering, you could expect to take part in dozens of different high-value projects across the life science industry, working within, or on the behalf of, a variety of clients. Contracting is very common in this market.
In terms of career progression, common paths tend to follow one of two routes:
- Highly technical SMEs (Often consultants specialising in key areas, or overseeing specific equipment packages, for example a Lead Process Engineer focused on upstream biopharmaceutical process equipment).
- Project/Process Management (An individual may choose to progress their career up the chain of seniority before eventually managing larger, and larger project values. For example, a junior engineer may move into work package ownership, before taking on their first project management role, and eventually stepping into a Senior Project Director position managing 100M+ investments).
