Pharmaceutical Drug Manufacturing & CAPEX Engineering refers to the processes and activities involved in the production of pharmaceutical products and the planning, design, and execution of capital expenditures (CAPEX) for manufacturing facilities, equipment, and infrastructure.

Throughout a career in CAPEX engineering, you could expect to take part in dozens of different high-value projects across the life science industry, working within, or on the behalf of, a variety of clients. Contracting is very common in this market.
In terms of career progression, common paths tend to follow one of two routes:
- Highly technical SMEs (Often consultants specialising in key areas, or overseeing specific equipment packages, for example a Lead Process Engineer focused on upstream biopharmaceutical process equipment).
- Project/Process Management (An individual may choose to progress their career up the chain of seniority before eventually managing larger, and larger project values. For example, a junior engineer may move into work package ownership, before taking on their first project management role, and eventually stepping into a Senior Project Director position managing 100M+ investments).
